The Hot Flush
For menopause, summer, and one leg out.
Memory foam is warm because it is dense and closed-cell: it holds your heat and gives it back. So this mattress has none on top. You lie on Talalay latex, which is open, springy and cool, over a graphite open-cell foam that moves heat away, over a convoluted layer that makes air channels, over springs with a vented border.
The cover is Tencel with a phase-change finish, unquilted so there is nothing between you and the latex. It is the coolest bed we know how to make without a fan.
Who this chapter is for
- Perimenopausal or menopausal and waking at 3 am on fire, with a partner who is fine.
- Anyone who has bought a memory foam mattress and found out the hard way why it is warm.
- Hot sleepers, summer sleepers, and the person with one leg permanently outside the duvet.

What it feels like, and who it suits.
No showroom, so we tell you everything a showroom would. If the feel is wrong after 30 nights, we swap it.
This chapter is 6 out of 10 on our scale, where 10 is a board. The dashed band, 6 to 7.5, is where most people sleep best.
Very good

Fine
Up to about 17 stone per person; latex is resilient and does not take a body impression.
Slats or a sprung divan let the vented border breathe. Avoid a solid, unventilated platform.
Standard or deep fitted sheets (27 cm). Use a breathable protector, not a plastic-backed one.
Pocket springs move independently, so you feel little of your partner turning. For very restless partners, look at The New Parent.
Rotate head to toe every three months in the first year, then twice a year. Use a breathable protector. Never fold it. It is one-sided: do not flip it.
Roughly 31 to 36 kg in a double. Our two-person team carries it in; you never lift it.
Every layer, by density.
This is the spec sheet the factory works to. If a layer is not listed here, it is not in the mattress. The cutaway is drawn from the spec, to scale, and the same scale is used for every chapter.
Read top (sleep surface) to bottom (base). Heights are to scale. Spring counts are stated for a 5ft king, the industry convention. Foam densities are the figures we specify to the factory in writing for every layer.
What happens when you order.
1. We make it
Your Hot Flush is made to order in Yorkshire in 10–14 days, with the build date on the label.
2. Two people deliver it
Flat, never rolled. Carried to the room you choose, unwrapped, placed on the base, packaging taken away. Old mattress collected if you asked.
3. 30 nights, then 10 years
If the feel is wrong after 30 nights we swap it within the range, in one visit. After that, the 10-year guarantee covers the build. Full terms.
The Hot Flush, answered.
How is this cooler than a gel memory foam mattress?
Gel-infused memory foam is still memory foam: dense, closed-cell, and warm. The Hot Flush has no memory foam in the top layer at all. Latex and open-cell graphite foam let air through, which is the difference you feel at 3 am.
Is latex bouncy?
A little. Talalay latex is springier than memory foam and does not leave a body impression. Most people who move from memory foam find it easier to turn over on.
Is it good for two people?
Yes, in a king or super king. The springs are individually pocketed, so movement transfer is low. There is no tension choice on this one because the feel comes from the latex layer.
Does it help with night sweats?
It does not stop them, and we will not claim that. It does keep the sleep surface cooler and drier than a memory foam top, so the sweat has somewhere to go, and the Tencel cover dries quickly.

Cooling mattress toppers: which ones actually cool, and which just say so
Most "cooling" toppers are memory foam with a blue cover. What a topper can and cannot fix, the materials that genuinely run cool, what to spend, and when a topper is the wrong answer.
Graphite foam in a mattress: what it is and whether it actually works
Graphite-infused memory foam is the one "cooling" foam that does something measurable. How it works, what it cannot do, and where it belongs in a build.
Latex vs memory foam if you sleep hot: which one, and why
The two most common comfort layers behave in opposite ways with heat. What each one does under you at 3 am, what latex feels like if you are used to memory foam, and how to get the best of both.
The menopause bedroom: two duvets, eighteen degrees, and the mattress
A practical set-up for sleeping through perimenopause and menopause, from the people who make a mattress for it. Room, bedding, the partner problem, and where the mattress fits, without any promises a mattress cannot keep.
Night sweats: the bedding checklist to go through before you blame the mattress
Half of "my mattress makes me sweat" is the protector, the duvet, the sheets or the room. Eight things to check in order, most of them cheaper than a topper, and the point at which the mattress really is the problem.
Talalay vs Dunlop latex: the two ways rubber foam is made, and which to buy
Same rubber, two processes, different mattresses. How each is made, how each feels, natural versus blended versus synthetic, and which belongs where in a build.
