Made in Yorkshire. Named for your life. Delivered flat.
Chapter is a small independent company from the North of England. We started it because mattress shopping had become a choice between a firmness number on a box and a sale that never ends, and neither told you what you were actually buying.
Why chapters, not numbers
Nobody has ever woken up and thought "I need a 6.5". But everybody knows if they have just moved out, split up, had a baby, started sleeping hot, or their back has started joining in. Those moments change what you need from a bed, so we named the mattresses after them and built each one for the job. The function line is always underneath the name, so nobody has to guess what a Rebound is.
Why Yorkshire
The Dewsbury and Batley corner of West Yorkshire has been making beds for over a century and still makes more of them than anywhere else in Britain. Our mattresses are made to order there, by people who have been building spring units since before boxed mattresses existed. It is also why we can deliver flat: the factory is a van ride from most of the North.
Why flat
A rolled mattress is compressed to a fifth of its height and left like that in a warehouse, a container and a van for weeks. Foams take a set, and springs are pushed past what they were designed for. We think a mattress should arrive exactly as it was built, so ours are carried in by two people and placed on the bed. It costs us more per delivery. It is the point.
The rules we build to
Densities in writing
Every foam layer is specified by density (kg/m³) and hardness on the spec sheet, and the spec sheet is on the product page. It is what a reviewer would measure, so we publish it.
No fibreglass, anywhere
We use a woven fire barrier. Every build is tested to BS 7177 low hazard for domestic use.
Words we do not use
Orthopaedic, cool gel, revolutionary, engineered, clinically. Construction facts only. A mattress supports you; it does not treat anything, and we will not say it does.
Same price everywhere
Our site, Amazon and eBay: one price. No permanent sale, no invented "was" price.
Tape edge in the chapter colour
The band on the packaging, the edge of the mattress and the card on the website are the same colour. It is how you know which chapter is on the bed ten years later.
Your next chapter
A mattress lasts eight to ten years. We keep your email, write once around year seven, and that is the marketing. Most customers buy three or four Chapters in a lifetime.
Where we are up to
Chapter is pre-launch. The builds are specified, the factory is chosen, and samples are being made. We open early 2027, in the North West and Yorkshire first, then nationally. If you want to know the day, join the list.
Be first when we launch
A mattress lasts eight to ten years. We will write to you once when we open, and again when it is time to think about the next one. That is the whole list.
